Protein Scan helps users scan product barcodes and nutrition labels to evaluate protein content, calories, macros, and sugar.
Data Stored on Device
The app stores scan history, product images, scan limits, onboarding state, and app preferences locally on the user's device. If iCloud is available, scan history may sync through the user's private CloudKit database.
Data Sent to Services
Barcode values may be sent to OpenFoodFacts to retrieve public product nutrition data. Label photos selected by the user are sent to our AI analysis proxy, which forwards them to Google Gemini for nutrition label extraction.
App events, purchase events, diagnostics, and crash reports may be processed by Firebase, Meta App Events, RevenueCat, Apple, and CloudKit. Payment details are handled by Apple and are not stored by Protein Scan.
Tracking
Meta advertiser ID collection is disabled unless the user grants App Tracking Transparency permission. Users can change tracking permissions in iOS Settings.
